Services:

  • SCALES partners with the Mujrdoch University School of Law and hosts the Murdoch Student Law Clinic. This enables us to provide a generalist legal service.

    • Law Clinic students interview clients under the supervision of solicitors and do all the related follow up work on behalf of the client.

    • A solicitor closely supervises every aspect of the students' work. No advice is given without approval of a supervising solicitor.

  • Free services are provided to disadvantaged people in the Kwinana and Rockingham areas.

  • Advice and limited casework are provided through the Law Clinic on:

    • Consumer disputes

    • Criminal Injuries Compensation

    • Criminal matters

    • Children's Court matters

    • Family and domestic violence matters

    • Equal Opportunity

    • Family Law matters relating to children

    • Fines and fines enforcement

    • Traffic offences

    • Limited humanitarian immigration matters

    • Centrelink

    • Tenancy

  • Services separate to the Law Clinic are:

    • Family and Domestic Violence Legal Service to victims

    • Tenant's Advice Service for residential private, community, long stay caravan parks and Housing Authority tenants

    • Weekly Tenant's Advocacy and Court Service at the Rockingham Magistrate's Court

    • Regular VRO Respondent's Information Service at the Rockingham Magistrate's Court

    • Perth Family Relationships Centre

    • Law and policy reform

    • Community development and Community Legal Education

    • Advice and information to young people on criminal and civil matters


Referral Criteria:

  • Living within the Cities of Rockingham or Kwinana

  • Community members with limited access to legal services

  • Low income and disadvantaged

  • Priority given to indigenous, CaLD, young people, tenants, people with disabilities; older people and people affected by family and domestic violence


Geographic Region:

  • Kwinana and Rockingham

  • Limited humanitarian immigration service to the Perth metropolitan area
