The Humanitarian Group
Monday to Thursday - 9:00am - 3:00pm
All our services are provided completely free of charge, although in some cases clients will need to meet the costs of disbursements.
We help people new to Australia from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including humanitarian visa holders, asylum seekers, refugees and people who are otherwise disadvantaged in their access to legal services.
specialist immigration legal advice (including assistance with protection visa applications and family reunion);
general legal assistance (including minor criminal and civil matters and general family law); and
community legal education.
We also have an extensive volunteer training program and provide legal and migration professional development opportunities for lawyers and migration agents, practical legal placements for graduate law students and other internship placements across a variety of disciplines.
We assess who we can assist on a case-by-case basis. Generally we assist people who are:
new to Australia (e.g. arrived within the last 5 years);
from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (and may have low English skills); and
disadvantaged in their access to legal services (e.g. have a low income).
